1. Could you tell us a little about your self?
My name is Mathias Kaden and i’m from Gera, Germany. I’ve been DJ’ing professionally for the last 14 years. I also produce my own music on labels like Vakant and Freude am tanzen or on Raum Musik under my japanese producer name mathimidori.
2. What’s happening right now? / What’s for the plane next?
Besides playing DJ gigs, I also recently started to do more live shows. This especially comes across in one project I’m involved in since last year, a band called Karocel. It’s a collaboration between the Band Marbert Rocel, myself and my drummer Michael Nagler.
I’m also working in the Studio a lot these days, and for sure there’s going to be a new release from my side over the next couple of months…
3. What is your current setup for DJ / Live?
When I’m DJ’ing I still only use Vinyl and CD’s. In terms of mixers, I prefer the Xone 92 from Allen & Heath, although I also like the good Rane mixer..
For live gigs my setup is a little larger obviously, particulary because I use some analog machines. Part of my setup are the Vermona DRM 1 and the jomox mbase as well as of course my trusty Macbook. Softwarewise I use Ableton Live.
4. What is important for you in bags when you carry your equipments?
Well first of all it needs to be sturdy and able to take the stress of continuous travelling and playing in many different climatic environments. And of course I want to have the feeling that my gear is well protected, because there’s nothing worse than a piece of equipment collapsing in the middle of the gig just because my Bag wasn’t safe enough.
5. Any horrible incident related to luggage while touring?
The worst thing that has happened to me on tour was the loss of one of my samplers. The whole thing went down in Mexico and basically it got stolen…
6. What do you think about the idea of DIG4, designing specifically for the music equipment under the consultation with artists around the globe?
I think it’s great to ask those people for input and ideas, who really take this equipment to its limits. Who else could give a better feedback on how well the products work out in a real-life situation than the working dj’s and musicians? I also think that this is exactly the reason why DIG4 equipment will be used by some of the top artists in the buisiness. The fact that these pieces of gear are made with such an attention to detail and the demands of the travelling musician makes them especially reliable. And reliability is what counts in a gig situation.
